What is AI Product Descriptions?

Also known as: generative product copy, automated listing content, AI catalogue copy

AI product descriptions are listing texts generated by a language model from product data, supplier information and images. They give retailers a first draft of titles, bullet points and longer descriptions in the brand's voice.

You supply attributes, a tone guide and examples of copy you like. The model drafts the text, and can create variants for the website, marketplaces or email, and in different lengths. Many ecommerce and PIM platforms now include this as a built-in feature.

Retailers with large or fast-changing ranges use it to clear a backlog of products with thin or supplier-copied text. That helps search engines and shoppers, and unique wording avoids duplicate content from copying supplier descriptions.

Language models can state things that are not true, such as materials, sizes or features, so every description needs a check against the real data. Misleading claims breach the Australian Consumer Law. Avoid generic, repetitive copy that harms the brand, and keep a human sign-off on health, safety and allergen information.

Used with a review step, it cuts content effort while improving catalogue completeness and SEO. Keep a short style guide and a set of approved example descriptions to feed the tool, which keeps the output closer to your brand and cuts editing time.
