What is Product Information Management (PIM)?

Also known as: PIM, product data management

Product information management (PIM) is a system that holds all the information about products in one place: names, descriptions, specifications, images, categories and prices. It then supplies that information to every sales channel.

Teams edit a product once in the PIM and the changes are published to the website, POS, marketplaces and printed material. Rules can check that required fields are completed before a product goes live.

Retailers with large or changing ranges use PIM to keep descriptions consistent, speed up adding new products and reduce errors across channels. Good product data also improves search visibility and conversion online.

The common failure is poor source data, so plan the structure and quality checks before importing. Integration with the POS and ecommerce platform keeps everything in step.
