A mobile point of sale (mPOS) is a selling system that runs on a tablet, phone or handheld device instead of a fixed till. Staff can ring up sales, take payment and look up stock wherever the customer is, on the shop floor, at a table or at an event.
The device runs the same POS software as the main till, connects over Wi-Fi or mobile data, and usually pairs with a small card reader. Sales sync to the central system, so stock and reports stay accurate.
Retailers use mPOS to shorten queues at busy times and serve customers without leaving them. Hospitality venues use it for table-side ordering, which speeds service and reduces errors between the floor and the kitchen.
Consider battery life, a reliable wireless network, secure device management and what happens if the connection drops. A strong venue-wide Wi-Fi network matters as much as the device itself.
