A stock transfer is the movement of inventory from one location to another, such as warehouse to store or between two stores. It is recorded in the inventory system so each location always shows the right stock.
The sending location creates a transfer listing what is being sent, the goods are shipped, and the receiving location confirms what arrives. Differences are flagged for investigation rather than silently written off.
Multi-store retailers use transfers to balance stock, fill gaps in a popular line and avoid marking down stock that would sell elsewhere. It supports click and collect and ship-from-store ordering too.
Untracked or late-recorded transfers are a common cause of stock errors. Use a clear process with confirmation on receipt, and scan items rather than relying on manual counts.
