What is Customer-Facing Display?

Also known as: customer display, pole display, second screen

A customer-facing display is a screen that faces the shopper and mirrors the sale in progress. It shows scanned items, prices, discounts, the running total and often payment instructions.

The display connects to the POS as a second monitor, a small pole display or a separate tablet. It updates as items are added, and can show promotions, loyalty sign-up prompts, tip options and signatures. Some also let customers confirm an emailed receipt or enter details.

Retailers use it to build trust and catch errors at the counter, since customers see what they are charged. Hospitality venues use it to prompt tipping or show order status. It can also display advertising between sales. Many displays also support signature capture or customer feedback prompts, though these features depend on the POS and payment terminal in use. Consider whether the extra screen suits the space on your counter.

Check compatibility with your POS, screen size and brightness, and privacy, so details like phone numbers or email addresses are not visible to others in the queue. Keep content simple, because cluttered screens slow the sale. Make sure tip and consent prompts follow your policy.

It improves transparency and creates a small but useful marketing space at the point of sale.
